How can Rossum Line Item Editor help you? Imagine you need to extract tables from invoices and other documents in your business workflow. Manually retyping or even copy-pasting the values from documents can be exhausting and require a life-threatening quantity of caffeine to complete. Our Line Item Editor feature can significantly boost your performance when working with such table structures.
How to open Line Item Editor
You can use this feature on fields that contain table-like data. Click on the Line Item in the left panel to show the grid.

When you click the Line Item button, you will see the grid suggested by the Rossum engine. You can either adjust it by clicking and dragging the boundary of the grid to the correct extent or create a new grid from scratch. Additionally, Rossum will try to put row and column lines where necessary.
How to add/edit the row and column separators in Line Item Editor
If the automatic adding of row and column lines didn’t do the job 100% correctly, you can:
- Move the existing horizontal or vertical lines by clicking and dragging them.
- Add a new row line on the left ruler or a column line on the top ruler.
- Delete a row/column line at the same places where you see the lines.

How to move a table
You can move the grid simply and quickly. All you need to do is to left-click on the blue circle icon, and while holding it, you can drag and move the table however you want.

How to delete a table
To delete the whole grid, click on the more options icon in the top-left corner, and click the “Delete grid” option. Remember that actions on a single grid do not affect grids on other pages. If you change one, you still have to update the others if necessary.

If you want to delete all the grids in the document, choose the “Delete all grids” option.

How to disable rows
Occasionally, you may need to disable data extraction for a specific row. To disable a row, move the cursor over it, and you will see the “Change type” option on the left side of it. Click on it to display two options: "Extract"
and "Not extracted."
If you don’t want to extract a row, choose “Not extracted,” and it will be disabled.

How to assign labels
Once the grid is correctly aligned with the data on the invoice, you should select the available label of the column. It allows you to match the data to the field defined in the extraction schema. Moreover, if you correctly label the data, Rossum will extract with greater precision over time if you use the Dedicated AI Engine.

Extracting data with Line Item Editor
Rossum extracts data from the table automatically. It updates every time you move the table, enable/disable rows, etc. You will see the extracted data in the table in the validation screen below the document. You can extract tens or hundreds of items in a few seconds.
This means that Rossum will extract just the cells touched, and you will no longer have to adjust the entire grid when you make your changes!
